The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins Book Review
Updated: Jun 20, 2019
I checked out her book from the library and as soon as I finished it. I purchased it from Amazon here. This is a book I want to include in my own personal library because it's a book I want to reference back for inspiration and motivation. It is that good! Love the way the book is organized and her tone of writing. They way I've heard her talk on YouTube is the same as in her book.
I gained tons of wisdom from her book and came to find out that the way I’ve been doing things is the 5 Second Rule. I’m the type of person that gets an idea and acts on it without thinking. The difference is that she has been able to find a way to keep applying this. Which for me I lack the discipline to keep going but with the 5 second rule I can become more consistent, disciplined, and committed. She shared amazing stories of people that have tried the 5 second rule and made me feel like I can do it too.
With the 5 second rule, Mel Robbins tackles issues of all sorts. The ones that are most popular are overthinking, indecisive, no action, Procrastination, anxiety, loosing weight, feeling hopeless, building momentum, and more.
I recommend reading this book next to your goal because you will have impulses to act. For example one of my goals is to lose weight. So towards the middle of the book I started to read this book in my gym cafe. When I got an impulse to act towards my goal I was already at the gym.
A few of the things that resonated with me the most are: “The Treasure in your life is buried within you….you unlock that power when you listen to your instincts and 5-4-3-2-1 push yourself to honor them.” -Mel Robbins
“The only thing that will quiet the chatter in your head is a decision to move. You really are just one decision away from a completely different life.” -Mel Robbins
